“I try my best not to slip and fall and spill words on a page by accident. And by that I mean words don’t appear on the page by mistake; but sometimes I do fall asleep behind the wheel and wake up to discover a 27 word pileup that’s blocking traffic both ways and has created a backup for several miles. Emergency services are not on their way.”

  1. Rather than a pile up of words I tend to find paint on my face and the simplicity I wished for on the canvas buried under a collection of nonsensical brushstrokes… but I venture that the highway is the same, just a different vehicle.

I have actually had this happen to me in real life. Unfortunately, what I was typing in my sleep tended to be one long word as my finger depressed a single key while my head dipped forward.

    • haha i like this ;)

      • Question for both, Allmostrelevant and Benzeknees: if this happens to me what you are describing, Benzkness, is there some deep symbolism here? or an indication of a psychological problem? Should I be alarmed? it’s the depressed finger, as I wake up to see the letter “a” shooting across the page like a meterorite. Is there a solution?

        • Wilder Man: In my quote, the sleep is metaphorical, and not actually ‘falling asleep,’ but rather not being fully aware of what you’re writing.
If you feel good and find yourself sleeping at your desk, you may want to talk to someone about it so you don’t actually fall asleep behind the wheel of a car. my suggestion would be to get some sleep. however i’m not sure how much symbolism is behind a string of a’s — if it were sixes or something, then maybe — but the only connection i can draw is that the doctor might tell you to open wide and say aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

          • Hey allmostrelevant … I will admit I am embarrassed about my lack of focus, thinking about my real sleep when I am trying to write (usually late-night), and I like your metaphor of sleep, connecting with your writing … Your good humor brought a well-received grin on this end, your recommendation to see a Dr … and say aaaaaaaaa. Seriously, I hope you were not offended by any of my nonsensical thoughts. Appreciate your blog.

  3. Have experienced such writing car crashes – not pleasant…though sometimes it can be amazing what results from them after a period of recuperation.

Reblogged this on Unabridged and commented:
Sums up my thoughts in this moment. Sometimes I feel like my heart is twisted and distorted like the metal in a burning car– I seemed perfectly fine hours ago, but now all I feel is pain.

One mistake lead to self-hate and a prayer for grace to redeem my broken state–
But even though my body has fallen again to the dark
I know God still pursues me. He still loves me, and covers each part of my heart.
So I’ll close my eyes and fall back asleep,
And thank Him for loving me– and letting me live again in His love as someone worth saving.

    • Hey, mfcampbell93 … I read your words and … I appreciate this soulish authenticity, this mix of reality of pain, and your choice to hope, and to believe in Him, and trust Him to walk with you through the fog and dark and twisted metal … WOW. This was good.

  8. HA ! This is so good. Keep writing.

I put this box here if you feel like putting words in it.
