Butterfly

When night falls dark and shrouds all hope
of mending what has gone awry,
Remember it takes time and faith
to know just when the moment’s right.

Cocoons unfurl new dreams of love.
Above, they dance and light the sky.
You are who I’ve been dreaming of.
You are my butterfly.

Caterpillar

Hollow and vacant he froze there at last
—alone, abandoned— a shell of his past.
The living cage, the bane of this man,
releases his soul in new form cast.

Time spent overcoming fear.

Make a New Year’s revolution.

Can you hear the retribution?

Brand new day; brand new year.

Shattered portrait ripped to shreds.

I could only watch it burn.

Faces blackened and erased.

Family ties, now loosened threads.

Silent silhouettes surrender.

Midnight faces chase the heat.

Racing thoughts not yet engendered;

Dreams still trapped between the sheets.

Oh, bumping, thumping, wonder-rumpus,

penetrating through the walls.

How magical, your magnum opus;

kick drum, high hat, disco balls.

Whenever you ever do gather your thoughts

In a pile of nonsense or jumbled up knots,

Remember that whether or not you have wrought

A whole lot, that taking a shot is never for naught.

Sifting through the sands of time

you’ll find, no doubt, your peace of mind

amongst the doldrums, sent adrift

within the rift of weight and lift.

Another day I have the chance

To embrace what I most long for.

But every time I don’t advance

I find teardrops on my keyboard.

I arrived at the platform the trains will all pass,

and beside me a man sat there frozen in time.

With a nod and a sigh the old man surmised,

“I’m afraid that this life will be just like the last.”
